…. Well, 2016 has been an interesting year for me professionally as I’ve been on a mission to really develop my photography. I’ve now shot over 350 weddings, and although the easy option would be to coast along doing the same old thing, I really believe that every one of my couples deserve more than that – I want to bring the very best work I can to each wedding. Weddings are often chaotic places that will test even the most experienced photographer, but I’ve tried especially hard this year. I’ve really worked my socks off. And what has been my driving force is that the whole point of the wedding day is that it is a day of celebration – a day of revelry, of merrymaking, or enjoying oneself, of jollification (And YES I did get these words from the Oxford Dictionary definition of celebration lol!). You are gathering your very best people around you to celebrate everything that is awesome about you two being together, and I want every single photograph I take to capture that celebration. The laughter, the expressions, the emotion – I want it all to come flooding back when you see it. Because imagine showing your grandchildren these in 50 years time, and saying ‘Yep, your Nan really knew how to party’.
I’ve realised that developing your own photography style is a long process, but this year I got just one little tiny step closer and I owe a lot of that to the help and guidance from my friend Tyler Wirken (a kick ass American photographer/wizard who has been mentoring me this year – thank you so much Tyler). These photos are my very favourites from 2016 – they are the ones that have just tickled me or made me feel a well of emotions. These photos are the ones I’ve looked back on where I can see how loved my Brides & Grooms are. Where they are being celebrated. And that is everything.
So a very very Happy New Year to you all – and I cannot WAIT for 2017!! xxx
