Birling Manor wedding – a beautiful DIY big day for Catriona & Chris

It’s not very often that one of my bride’s tells me she will be making her own wedding dress. And making all the desserts for the wedding breakfast. AND doing all the flowers for the wedding – including the bouquets and buttonholes! But then the very talented Catriona is not like other brides – she is amazingly creative and can turn her hand to anything – she’s a one-woman wedding superstar!! I was so excited about seeing all her hard work come together for her and Chris’ beautiful Birling Manor wedding.

Catriona and Chris had their ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church in Hove (which I love photographing at… Father Kevin is brilliant), and then took all their guests on a coastal journey on a vintage Routemaster bus to Birling Manor. I still can’t believe that Catriona sewed her own wedding dress and veil – it was so beautifully made, and she looked incredible in it. The flowers all had little Scottish references to it (Catriona’s family are the McKenzies) with the family tartan in the buttonholes, and thistles dotted about. You don’t get to photographs many kilts at weddings in Sussex, so that was a good giggle too.

And just to say – Chris also put in some hard work – resurrecting a 30 year old BBC computer (remember these??) to be used as the coolest guest book I’ve ever seen. Who needs vintage typewriters when you can have supercool 80s technology! It was an incredible day with the loveliest people – so I hope you enjoy these very happy photographs! xxx
